He retired as a Teamster truck driver from TVA in 1996 and later worked at the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.
He enjoyed watching game shows, both old and new. He delighted in sitting outside in his rocking chair during the warmer months. His morning ritual was to retrieve the newspaper and Our Daily Bread and read it while having coffee.
He was preceded by his parents, Margaret Shelton Rowan and Luster Officer; brothers, James and Bobby Officer; grandparents, Walter and Lizzie Shelton; granddaughter, ShaDonna Ann Phillips.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Alice Louise Officer; his five children, Joyce Officer (James) Martin, Walter Edward Officer, Jr., Kevin Lamar Miller, Troy Eugene Officer, and Marlan (Henry) Snodgrass; his grandchildren, Carrie Alexandra Martin, Sonya Marie Edmonds, Marcus Alan Officer, Jordan Edward (Savannah) Officer, Alisha Nicole (Jerel) Officer, and Danielle Elizabeth (Dexter) Marable and Sandra Koonce; his great-grandchildren, Jamarion Tre’ Shawn Miller, Raven Claire-Anne Smith, Kingston James Marable, Cameron Edward Marable, Keosha Sankoh, and Kirstin Edmonds; his great-great-grandchildren, Aisha Sankoh, Tiana Phillips, Cherise Phillips, Andrew Phillips, Kirstin Edmonds, Jr., Alena Koonce and Aniya Koonce; sister, Virginia Smith; aunt, Mable Reid, special cousin, George Pickett; countless other relatives, friends, and adopted family members.
Graveside services were held on Monday, August 15, 2022, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
