Apparent escape prone Payne recaptured in Alabama


Johnny Lewis Payne, a detainee that managed to escape from a Chattanooga detention facility and was recaptured in Marion County, TN earlier this month. Payne had already escaped from a Coffee County, AL facility and then managed to escape from Mocassin Bend facility has been recaptured once again.

wanted fugitive from the State of Tennessee. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Hubert Road and Narrow Lane with a possible address where the fugitive was hiding. As deputies made their way to the residence the fugitive left the residence in a vehicle.

A vehicle pursuit took place which resulted in the fugitive losing control of his vehicle and wrecking at the intersection of Charlie Patterson and Moores Mill Road.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the US Marshal’s Task Force converged on the scene to take custody of the fugitive on multiple charges.
Marion County TN Sheriff’s Office Detective Gene Hargis said, “We worked on that in conjunction with TBI and the Marshal’s Office throughout the day closing in on Payne’s family that lived down there in Madison, Alabama.” Hargis applauded the interagency cooperation that led to the arrest of Payne and went so far as to say, “That’s exactly what you’d like to see happen when we’re all on the same page.”
